Interactive visualizations: open access resources on network science, data science, text mining, netnography, and related topics.
By Dr. Verónica Espinoza
In this section, I share a compilation of materials specially prepared for my classes. It includes interactive visualizations, charts, open-access articles, and more. The resources mainly focus on network science, data science, text mining, netnography, and related topics. These resources are freely available and designed for educational purposes. If you use them, please give proper credit.
These include:
1.-Interactive Co-authorship Network of Albert-László Barabási on PubMed An interactive visualization built from 250 articles retrieved with my PubMed-Graph App v1.0 © and explored through Scimago Graphica and Looker Studio.
2.- Interactive visualization that integrates open-access articles on the topic: "Community Detection". An interactive visualization built from open-access articles retrieved via OpenAlex, filtered by the topic Complex Network Analysis Techniques. Articles are grouped by journal, and node size reflects citation count.
3.-A dynamic visualization where you can explore Network Visualization Tools. This visualization is inspired by my Medium article titled "16 Network Visualization Tools That You Should Know!", published in 2023, which has reached 40,000 views.
4.-Netnography Visual Exploration: Interactive visualization of open-access articles on Netnography, presented through a Packed Circle Chart and an interactive table.
More content will be added soon. This section will be updated regularly, so stay tuned!
All the sections presented below are original research materials prepared by Dr. Veronica Espinoza for her classes.

Albert-László Barabási in PubMed: A Coauthorship Network
This visualization represents the co-authorship network of Albert-László Barabási in PubMed. The articles were collected using PubMed-Graph App v1.0 ©, a tool I personally designed and developed. My app retrieved 250 articles and generated a GEXF network file, which was later imported into Scimago Graphica for interactive exploration.
The network displays Barabási’s co-authorships on PubMed. Nodes are ranked by betweenness centrality, and you can hover over any node to see how it connects through existing co-authorships.
Finally, an interactive table was created in Looker Studio, allowing you to explore each article along with its corresponding authors, all of whom contributed to building the co-authorship network. If any article catches your interest, simply copy and paste its DOI into your browser to access the original paper.
▶ To interact with the network, click on the nodes of interest or use the zoom function to explore it in greater detail.

Community Detection
This visualization integrates open-access articles related to Community Detection. The articles were collected through OpenAlex using the search term “Community Detection” in either the title or abstract. Retracted articles were excluded, and only those with open-access status and under the topic Complex Network Analysis Techniques were included.
In this visualization, the articles are grouped by Journal or Source, based on metadata retrieved directly from OpenAlex.
By clicking on any article of interest, you can explore its full title, year of publication, and access a direct link to the original repository for download. The size of the circle representing each article corresponds to its number of citations.
Network Visualization Tools
This visualization is inspired by my Medium article titled "16 Network Visualization Tools That You Should Know! [Link] published in 2023, which has reached over 40,000 views to date. In this interactive version, you can click on each node to find a link to a tutorial I wrote about it or to the tool’s official website. I will continue adding more network visualization tools to this project over time, so stay tuned!
▶ Click on any node and it will take you to my tutorial on Medium or to the tool’s official website, as applicable.
Netnography: Interactive Visualization
Based on open-access articles about "Netnography," I present two types of visualizations: a) Packed Circle Chart and b) Table.
Description
a) Packed Circle Chart
This visualization integrates open-access articles related to Netnography. The articles were collected via OpenAlex using "Netnography" as the search term in either the title or abstract and were filtered to include only those with open access.
In this visualization, articles are grouped according to the topic.subfield column, with information extracted directly from OpenAlex.
By clicking on each article of interest, you can view its full title, publication year, and access a direct link to the original repository for download. The size of the circle representing each article is determined by its number of citations.

b) Table
I have added another visualization to the articles I mentioned earlier so you have another way to explore them: an interactive table. This table includes the title, year, DOI, and abstract, so you can read more about each article.
You can also use the search filter to find articles on any key topic that interests you.
